Not a Drop of Rain Falls Anymore

Somaliland: Without Water, There Is No Survival

As the families' fields wither in the relentless sun, they dig into the stony earth in search of water. They urgently need our lifesaving aid!

In Somaliland, the weather has gone haywire. In some regions, not a single drop of rain has fallen in years. Farming has become impossible, livestock can no longer find anything to eat and are dying. If nothing is done, the people will be next.

Our team spoke with the families of the small community of Baligubadle, home to around 18,000 people. Because they currently have to dig long and hard for water, a well is the solution for them. Although HELFENDE HÄNDE has already managed many well-building projects, constructing a well in such a remote part of Somaliland would be a real challenge. Yet the water is urgently needed for drinking, hygiene, and the fields. A well can save lives here.

Building a Well in the Vastness of Somaliland: No Easy Task

In Baligubadle, 80 meters of stony ground must be drilled through to reach the lifesaving water. This requires an entire convoy of specially equipped vehicles. They must make an arduous journey over dusty tracks, barely more passable than the rocky plains surrounding them. All of this makes this undertaking demanding and, unfortunately, expensive. But...

We Can Help So Many Families Here

When every drop of water is needed for drinking, there is none left for hygiene. The families of Baligubadle are therefore constantly at risk of infectious diseases spreading among them. Yet even that is only secondary to the most urgent problem: having enough to drink in order to survive at all. That is what makes a well so valuable: clean water from deep underground, reliably available to the people, can save countless lives!

The Well Could Be Built in Two Weeks

Despite all the obstacles, our experienced team expects drilling and construction to take just 14 days – allowing thousands of people to gain access to lifesaving water this quickly. The condition, however, is that we can provide the team with the roughly 30,000 euros still needed for the drilling company and the equipment.

Please help us build this lifesaving well. Countless lives depend on it. The costs are high, but together we can make it happen. Every euro helps us reach the total amount – whether it's 5, 15, or 50 euros!
