Emergency Aid Nepal: Help After the Flash Flood | Helfende Hände ...

The Cameras Are Gone, the Suffering Continues

Nepal: We Continue to Help!

In 10 helicopter missions we supplied hundreds of families in a cut-off village. Many had simply lost everything: along with the roof over their heads, everything from clothing to cookware had disappeared in the mudslides. No shelter, no warm meal – and that at thousands of meters altitude.

Where our team's helicopter landed, there were hugs and tears of joy. "You are the first to bring us help!" we heard more than once. The relief was immense: the survivors had not been forgotten. And this knowledge is, time and again on our missions, a "relief good" not to be underestimated.

Not only is international attention fading, many aid organizations have already left the country. We have not! Our team will continue to fly relief missions as long as we can equip it with further resources.

At the end of August, over 1,500 people in Nepal died in a dramatic flash flood, another 5,000 remained missing. A mixture of rock and ice had plunged down into the valley higher up in the mountains and triggered a mudslide in the Trishuli River. The massive slide destroyed entire communities dozens of kilometers downstream in minutes.

Immediately our emergency relief team traveled to the Himalayas to help the survivors. Our focus as always: to help where it is too remote, too difficult, or too dangerous for other organizations.

The Help Must Continue!

On October 11 there was a second mudslide in the same river valley that crushed houses as if they were made of cardboard. Five people disappeared in the floods.

Many families still lack the most basic necessities, and that while temperatures at thousands of meters altitude continue to fall. Our team remains on site and brings help flight by flight to places unreachable by land.
