How a bowl of porridge saves children from a fate at the garbage dump!
How is a country supposed to leave poverty behind if its children cannot go to school?
In Burundi, thousands of children search for food scraps on dangerous garbage dumps instead of going to school—that is how dire the nutritional situation is in the country. Our project partner Claude endured a childhood full of deprivation himself. He often lay awake at night due to hunger. Claude was very fortunate to receive a good education nonetheless, and he used it to help the children in his home country—he felt it was his duty.
I know exactly how it feels to go to bed hungry almost every night, not even knowing if there will be food tomorrow. No child should grow up like that, which is why I am grateful for any support.
Through his nutrition program and as an employer, Claude provides many children in the region with a healthy and sustainable perspective for a better future, instead of the one that awaits them at the garbage dumps of this impoverished country.
Only 15 cents per meal—how a porridge is changing the lives of so many children!
Claude spoke with a wide variety of people, from village elders and farmers to nutritionists, until he found the perfect solution: he developed a porridge consisting only of healthy and nutritious ingredients, sourced from farmers in Burundi.
He opened a factory that now produces porridge for thousands of children in Burundi. In school kitchens and community centers, the porridge is prepared in large quantities and distributed to the girls and boys.
Claude's nutrition program gives children the chance for the life they deserve.
A cup of porridge that not only protects a poor child from malnutrition and hunger but also spares them the often dangerous search for food. They can participate in school lessons focused, awake, and full of energy, instead of being exposed to diseases, accidents, or even human traffickers.
