Known as a "marketplace" for drug smuggling, Juárez is one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Ruthlessness and brutality are a part of daily life.
It is devastating to imagine that children as young as five must already expect to be trapped forever in the spiral of poverty, drugs, and violence. How are these lost children supposed to grow into loving adults?
Fortunately, our friend and project partner Betel is continuing her father's legacy: the lovingly run "Emmanuel" sanctuary!
Children in Juárez are exposed to great suffering and constant danger. Children whose parents are unable to care for them for various reasons also need outside help.
"Emmanuel" is a real home for the children, providing them with a valuable education and loving care. Education is the best way out of poverty, and even the youngest children in our kindergarten learn to treat others with love and respect. Only through projects like this can a generation grow up that stands for peaceful coexistence.
Vicious cycle
Unfortunately, many poor children believe they can escape poverty by joining drug gangs—but in doing so, they become part of the vicious cycle of violence themselves.
Working mothers often have to leave their children alone for up to twelve hours. In most cases, their earnings are not enough to cover kindergarten or school fees. If children are unsupervised during this time, they are threatened by abuse, gangs, and human trafficking. That is why it is important for children to find their way to "Emmanuel" as early as possible.
"Emmanuel" inspires joy and hope
For a sensitive child's soul to flourish, every girl and boy needs more than just the bare essentials. At "Emmanuel," the little ones can play, laugh, and discover hobbies. In addition to loving care, the growing children receive a high-quality education. Many of our former protégés now have great careers and live independent lives.
