In Karamoja (Uganda), children are starving — forgotten by the world. Yet even a little help can save their lives.

No other help for miles around!
As soon as we step out of the vehicle, we are met by scorching hot air. But it is not the heat that takes our breath away, but the overwhelming suffering of the people.
Their worn, loose-fitting garments do not hide how thin they are. Some of the women have their exhausted children on their laps. The little ones stare into space and have bloated, painful hunger bellies.
Monte and his team specifically seek out these groups in the seemingly endless expanses of Ethiopia that are reached by no other aid organization: too remote, too dangerous, too few people at once for the large aid agencies.
Children with spindly arms who are too weak to sit upright on their own. Devastated parents who have lost their livestock and fields in the drought and can no longer give their children anything to eat ... if we do not help them, no one will!
According to UNICEF, over 20 million children in Ethiopia and the neighboring countries of Somalia and Kenya are at risk of acute hunger. Millions of people are dependent on aid, many of them on the run. This often ends in remote places that no other aid agency visits except for us.
Protective Tarpaulins
Displaced by the drought, hundreds of families are leaving their ancestral villages. Their flight ends in parched wastelands where the struggle for survival continues. The people only have with them what they could carry. The pitiful dwellings they build offer little protection from the sun, the cold at night, and sandstorms.
We bring them weatherproof, durable tarpaulins – a little protection and security in the hostile plains.
Vital Water
Droughts make water a scarce commodity. What people find is dirty and contaminated with germs. That is why we bring large quantities of urgently needed, safe drinking water to the families.
Life-saving Food
Drought means hunger – and hunger kills. Children, in particular, do not survive malnutrition for long. Weakened in this way, they also quickly fall victim to diseases. We bring the families rice and beans – high-energy food that sustains a family for a long time.
