Children's Aid Philippines
Who helps abused children in the Philippines?
In the Philippines, approximately one in ten children falls victim to sexual violence. These children suffer severe trauma. These little ones urgently need our help!
Jun is a good friend of Helfende Hände. He fights for the most vulnerable in society: children who have endured the worst. He repeatedly tells us about boys and girls whose fates leave us speechless…
For children who have experienced unspeakable horrors, we offer loving and safe havens. To be able to heal these young, innocent souls is a wonderful privilege, and I sincerely thank everyone who helps us in this endeavor.
Poverty in the Philippines is so oppressive that it brings out the worst in people: sexual violence, even within families. Added to this is the difficult social position of girls and women: few gain access to education and must accept poorly paid and arduous work to survive. It is all the more important that abused girls in our children's home receive the protective space they need.
A Way Out of Suffering
One of the children in our children's home project is Lisa (name changed to protect her identity). She was 13 when she came to us in a shocking state: her father had been abusing her since she was very young. Threats and beatings were commonplace in her home. The girl was neglected and barely provided with meals or even clean clothes. For years, her young, innocent soul suffered terrible damage.
Fortunately, Lisa was at school when a team from our Philippine partner program introduced themselves there. She mustered all her courage, told the staff her story, asked for help – and was given a place in the program's children's home.
Life in Our Children's Homes – Care, Therapy, and School
Lisa now lives with other children who have similar experiences. The staff and the other children lovingly embrace Lisa when fear and pain surface. Lisa also receives therapy and all the psychological support she needs.
Today, she can laugh and play with other children again. Her enthusiasm for learning has even been rekindled: with shining eyes, she shows everyone around her the progress she is making in reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Lisa is not an isolated case!
Many girls and boys in the Philippines suffer unspeakably. They urgently need nothing more than a safe haven, care, and some hope.
